Our Three-Fold Life

I think we can agree God demonstrated his brilliance when he designed humanity. If we study physiology and the way our body communicates and orchestrates the complexities of our organs, tissues, and cells, we would marvel at the creativity of our Supreme God.

But let’s not stop there! We’re more than a physical body. God created us with an added soul, and spirit! The synergy between body, soul, and spirit is a fascinating journey of self-discovery.

What is Synergy

Synergy blends the complexities of our framework to create a unique person. The synergy of our framework depends on the health of our body, soul, and spirit. Neglecting one or more of these gifts can limit our ability to flourish.

Body – The Physical Person

What comes to mind when you think of your body? Maybe you think of fitness and physical health. Although these are important, our physical bodies make it possible to have relationships and community. We bring what God has done privately in our hearts to a physical world. We express God’s love through the physical actions and words we present to others each day.

Our physical frame is a temporal and fragile gift. We need food, water, and rest to keep it healthy. If our bodies are weak, it can affect our perspective—soul and spirit. We can become discouraged or apathetic.

Here are a few scriptures that help us view our physical bodies in a deeper way.

We are the Body of Christ.

“Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other,” Romans 12:4-5 New Living Translation.

We are the Temple of the Holy Spirit

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body,” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT.

We are Called to Serve

“For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love,” Galatians 5:13 NLT.

We Work for the Glory of God

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people,” Colossians 3:23-24 NLT.

We are Expected to Rest

“It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night,
anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones,” Psalm 127:2 NLT.

We don't live life; we experience life with our physical bodies. God has given us various senses to enjoy this physical world. How we care for our bodies, will affect how we experience the physical world. As we care for our physical framework, we can align our external efforts to God's plan.

God has created you to flourish, and He has blessed you with a body that can communicate, love, and serve.
