How to Find Your Personal Brand Voice

Finding your personal brand voice is the secret sauce that makes your business unforgettable.

Your brand differentiates you from everyone else online.

But let’s be honest; “finding your voice” can feel like chasing a shadow. I know because I’ve been there.

Years ago, I was writing and selling articles, yet the idea of “finding my voice” frustrated me to no end.

It seemed like such a strange concept to pin down.

I could hear my voice when I spoke, but I wondered if I had a “writing voice.” If I did, what was it? The more I thought about it, the more elusive it became. If I tried to define it, I might start creating a voice that wasn’t truly mine.

People would tell me not to invent something, or it would become artificial. “Marisa, just let your natural writing style emerge from within…” Sure, but what did that mean? Was I funny, serious, boring, confusing? Did I make sense, or did I just ramble on?

As usual, I was overthinking it. It turns out that finding your voice is really about writing how you talk—without filters. Well, maybe a few filters.

It’s about letting your true self shine through your words.

Here are simple tips to help you discover your personal brand voice, tone, and style:

  • Be Authentic: Share your true self and values. People connect with authenticity. Your voice should reflect who you are, not who you think you should be.
  • Use Your Stories: Your experiences and journey are unique. Use them to engage and inspire your audience. Think back to moments that defined you and weave them into your content.
  • Simplify Your Message: Avoid jargon. Speak clearly and directly to your audience’s needs and desires. Simplicity in language ensures that your message is relatable.
  • Reflect on Feedback: Pay attention to how your audience responds. We’re all a work in progress, so audience feedback is filled with valuable insights.
  • Leverage Tools: Use tools like ChatGPT to analyze your blog posts or transcripts. This can help identify your natural tone, voice, and style, giving you insights into how you come across to your readers.

Remember, your voice is what makes you…YOU.

Embrace your uniqueness and let your personal brand shine!

When I finally stopped overthinking and started writing the way I spoke, I experienced a profound sense of relief.

My content felt more genuine, more engaging, and, most importantly, more me.

It’s a journey of self-discovery that every writer and marketer should embrace.

So, take a deep breath, relax, and let your natural voice guide your words. Grammarly will hate you, but your audience will love reading your content.
